Hello,
Well, we are winding down 2021 and still, the staff cannot believe that we operated under COVID-19 influences. Despite heavy mandates, we were able to offer our regular Wellness Services such as Bastyr Naturopathic Medical appointments, Foot Care and Social Worker counseling and a host of exercise classes. These were on Zoom to begin with and by July, moved to in-house.
Currently, we offer 29 services/classes per week. It’s been a sheer pleasure having familiar and new faces come to the center, filling the rooms with great conversation and laughter. The in-house Community Dining Program now offers 3 means of resourcing a hot, nutritious meal: attend in person the lunch program, participate in the TO GO home delivered meal or pick-up at the front door.
These past 21 months have been filled with change, adaptation, mandates and continuously shifting our efforts from providing Emergency Services (food, groceries, etc.) to re-opening efforts. The logistics with either of these, has been very demanding as well as challenging for staff at times, as staff have had to learn several new software programs from various external parties, in order to properly track the required information associated with grant processes. I’m grateful for a staff that willingly accepted the increase in workload and diligently work to maintain safety mandates as directed by King County Health Department, while adding more programs each month.
We could not have accomplished all that we did in 2021 without the support and assistance from our wonderful Senior Center board. Each member brought a different talent to the table and under the leadership of Ginny Scantlebury, managed various fund raisers to include the Drive by Dinners and the Annual Holiday Bazaar. Each member has shared their unique talents to support the center in its operations. We thank them for their dedication and work in supporting our aging population.
GIVING TUESDAY – we hope that you will take advantage of the end of year donation period. Giving Tuesday will take place on Tuesday, November 30th but due to COVID, runs through December 31st. As there are associated fees with registering with the state Give Tuesday services, we would ask that you donate through our online DONATION link, mail us a check or drop by with a cash donation. This allows your full donation to be awarded to the senior center and all donations are tax deductible. Checks can be made out to Shoreline-LFP Senior Center. Through your assistance, we will be able to continue providing meals to home bound seniors, offering Fitness and Lifelong Learning classes as well as providing free counseling services through our Veterans Benefits Advisor, Social Worker and Medicare Advisor. Every donation counts! If you would like to provide an automatic monthly donation, please contact us for further information. You can also donate on our website at www.shorelinelfpseniorcenter.org
Thank you for a great year and we look forward to seeing you all in 2022!
Regards,
Theresa LaCroix
